Damn... this album starts out *SO* strong, really funky and catchy, then goes horribly pear shaped on side 2.Although they are each about a minute and half too long, the three big cuts on the album, tracks 1, 2, and 4 ("Emergency ", "Fresh" and "Cherish"), are definitely worth the price of admission. They still make me smile after all these years , although, as I said they are all a little long winded at an average of almost 5 minutes each. We get the point by the third minute and the songs could have ended leaving us wanting more (instead of wanting to hit the "NEXT" button).Track 3, "Misled", fits in pretty nicely as well with a cool groove to it and amusing lyrics, but ..wow... once we hit that 5th track, "Surrender", the album starts to turn into a downward spiral that just ends in a complete uninspired mess.Although "Surrender" itself is an interesting jam with some cool lyrics, and has a funky groove that reminds me of Prince and the Revolution, most of Side 2 feels like a desperate batch of "we need *something* to fill up the album"..."Bad Woman" sounds like a shmaltzy attempt at writing a wedding-friendly song with a romantic groove, but with tedious wedding-inappropriate lyrics and definitely not a song for getting in the mood.The final track, a random piece of religiously-themed pop, "You Are The One", just goes on forever and goes nowhere lyrically or musically...I'd have been pretty annoyed if I had paid full price for this when it was new, but for a couple of bucks (and the option to NEVER have to listen to Side 2 again) it's worth a spin.
